How about some poetry....

If life is a battle
we only win when we die,
It seems our best option
is to not even try.
The war we are fighting
isn't going our way,
We wait in the dark for
God to save the day.

With added recruits
our numbers are growing,
but it seems more and more
that our zeal is just slowing.
We slip into frozen
mechanical gestures
Without even thinking
we're all locked in fetters.

A dreary excuse for
the life we'd be living,
if only we hoped
and kept on believing ––
Whether God's smile
goes or it stays
His eternal promise
forever remains.

He showers his mercy
like rain, when it's darkest,
and comforts us most
when life cuts us sharpest
A faint gleaming memory,
a glimpse from above,
Reminds us we're fighting
Because of His love.
