The hollowness that comes from the pain,
the way the tears that seem to never end wear away
at our already broken heart.
All this, and our great challenge
and the hardest part is carrying on.
We try to hold it here, try to hold the weight of heartache
that so often comes so close to crushing us,
and sometimes all we can say is, Why?

Not that it's a question that we really need an answer to–
We have told ourselves again and again the truth that
all things work together for the good of those who love Him.
And we love Him.
So all this, all this heart breaking pain
is to make us perfect through His love–
we are perfectly loved.

But the fact that it is love doesn't change
how much it hurts–
it doesn't take away the pain,
no matter how much consolation it may be.

And when the fragility of life is thrust in our faces
and death with the peace that comes after it
seems so welcome so long as we could just go there together,
the overwhelming helplessness of this sorrow of this life
feels eternal,
feels like so much more than we can bear,
and all we can cry is,
Why are we even here?
What are we doing here, so far from perfection?

So close your eyes and feel His presence–
He is here, even here, in the sacred hollowness of the pain.
Hear him in the pounding of the pain,
in the flood of falling tears,
and His steady whisper synchronizes with the beating of the broken heart,
Peace, child, you cannot know all the answers now.
But eternity is a long time to heal the hurts you take
on your journey there.

Eternity is a long time to heal the hurts we take on our journey there.

So we breathe in,
and we breathe out.
We do not stop the flow of holy tears,
because He is filling His precious bottle full of them,
and He is weeping too.
We give this sorrow a home in our hearts,
where it may stay for longer than we like.
And we wait for the day when the pain and aching and tears and weariness
are no more.

And when we grow too weary to carry on,
we welcome His strong embrace and let Him carry us.
Because He will.

And we wait in hope for eternity,
for these hurts to be healed forever.
