defying the rules of time

Oh Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain
and feel the promise is not vain
that morn shall tearless be.

The rainbow is greater than the rain,
no matter how heavy the rainstorm seems.

And when what was perhaps the happiest night of my life
is over,
and the weeks and months and
Sundays and Wednesdays ahead
without those dear two who made it so very happy
loom ahead, feeling so long,
so much longer than that perfect night,
well,
they're not.
They're not longer.
A whole lifetime of sadness is not more
than one taste of heaven.

The rainbow is greater than the rain,
no matter how much longer seems the rain.
And that perfect night will always
be to me eternal.
The sadness of this life too shall pass,
and our short tastes of heaven will,
in time,
become eternal.

  2. I wrote it. :) The first bit is not my own, it's from the hymn O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go.
