reoccuring hope

the weight and hopelessness of love,
burdened by the hope of desire;
in losing all we thought we'd won
we lose ourselves in the Refiner's Fire.

a jewel dropped from a fiery sky
filled with a burning hope expected
fall to rise again instead;
Seasons of Loss our love intercepted.

suppose for a moment
we hadn't touched fire,
hadn't buried our hands
in the coals of desire.
a life of ease and comfort driven-
for expectation drives all heartache.
wishing provides the wounds we're given
and wishing is what makes the heart break.

but Hope will not put us to shame.

"When you have learned acceptance-with-joy,
then I shall give you your heart's desire."
